The Music Dog
Chapter 1
“Boys line up!” Ms. Magruder instructed our class. Today was Monday and my class was going to music. “Girls line up!” She told us.
I got up out of my seat and lined up behind Angela. “I got your e-maill, Angela. I'm replying,” Abby whispered behind me.
“Where are we going today, music?” Ms. Magruder asked. “Music!” My class answered in unison. Ms. Magruder nodded her head and we headed down the corridor.
We passed many paintings on the way. “Pass all the way down!” I heard Ms. Magruder call from down the hall-way.
We kept going until we reached the music door. We all looked back. Ms. Magruder wasn't there. “GO!” I yelled to Gabe. He pushed open the door and we walked in.
Sit down in your spots!” Ms. Fincham ordered as she finished her Nature Valley Oats 'n' Honey gronoala bar. We all sat down in our spots and waited for directions.
Okay,” She said as she came out of her office. “Since the second graders are doing Veteran's Day performance, we're going to learn one of the best songs. They are doing this because Veteran's Day is easy to learn the songs. I feel that you guys need to be more challenged.”
The second graders are bragging about it,” I said
They are really excited because this is their first time on stage. EVER,” She told me.
Yeah, because-” I stopped myself from saying it. What was the point anyway? She wasn't listening.
Okay. I'm going to play it for you before we learn the first two parts,” Ms. Fincham walked over to the CD player and pressed the “play” button. The music started to play. I looked up at the document cam and sang the words with the rythem. I'm glad I wasn't the only one singing. Kali was singing too. Suddenly, Ms.Fincham stopped it.
I'm also going to teach you the movements,” She started to teach us the first movement.
After 15 or 20 minutes of doing the movements, she played it and we followed along with the song.
She stopped it after the second part. “I'm going to let you listen to it,” She played it again.
We listened to it for about 5 mintues. Ms.Fincham put her music workbook under the document cam. “It goes for six beats until we clap twice,” She played the music. For 15 minutes of learning it, we got into groups and started coming up with our own movements. I was in a groupd with Abby, Angela, Jacob, and Christian.
Okay. Hannah and Anna are going to share what they have!” Ms. Fincham played the music and we all watched. They finished and Ms. Fincham picked on all the groups with girls in it. “We don't want to share!” I told her. She started the music anyway.
Why don't you want to share? Because it's so stupid?” Jacob asked with a hint of laughter in his voice.
NO!” I glared at him. What type of friend is he if he doesn't even like the movements his own friends came up with? I thought.
Come on! No one's looking!” Abby looked around the room and started doing the movements we came up with. Jacob, Angela, and Christian followed. I heistated. Then I moved. Ms. Fincham stopped the music. Thank heavens! I balled my fist and pulled it down.
Now you guys!” Ms. Fincham pointed at the two groups at the bottom of the steps.
We're up again!” Jacob got up.
“No we're not! It's just those groups!” I pulled him down. The groups finished, but she didn't stop the music. “Keep going! Head back to your spots!” She diretced us. We all headed for our spots, still keeping the beat.

Once we all got back she stopped the music. “Put a sticker up and then we'll have Music Fun Day on Thursday!”She said.
As someone put up a sticker, Abby sneaked over to me. “Look! Dog bones! On her desk!” She whispered.
I looked over and saw the dog bones on her desk next to the document cam. I gasped. “Maybe she's a dog!” I joked. Abby and I laughed as we lined up. Ms. Clark was silently waiting for us. She turned around and headed down the hall. We followed.
5 minutes had passed and we were up in the classroom. Ms. Clark told us to get out our netbooks and we did.
Work on your story!” She gave us the directions.
Soon, it was time for lunch. “Line up!” Ms. Clark demanded. We lined up and left the room. Angela, Dylan, and I got the lunch basket and walked down. We were soon setting our lunch basket down and going outside. Angela and I headed up the hill to go get Abby.
Once we got Abby, we headed to the field. “Let's teach Angela our girl scout songs!”Abby declared.
I nodded and we began.

Chapter 2
RIIIIIIIINNNNNGGGGG!” The bell hollored.
Come on!” I raced down the hill with Abby and Angela following. We lined up and followed the line in. I got hand sanitizer and waited for Abby to go get her lunch. I backed up into the music door and turned. I looked at the window and saw.......a dog head?! The head looked like a dachshund head. It might be Ms. Fincham's dog. Wait! Ms. Fincham doesn't have a dog! I started to back up. BUMP!
Watch it!” Abby spun around. Waves of annouyance rateated off her.
Sorry, Abby,” I apoligized. We started down the hall, with Angela following.
I lined up in the lunch line. Abby and Angela passed to go pick a table. It took 5 minutes to get my lunch. I grabbed a spoon and sat down next to Abby.
When I was waiting for you by the music door, I saw a dachshund like head in the window. What do you think it could mean?” I told them.
Maybe Ms. Fincham has a dog,” Angela said.
That's what I thought at first. But she doesn't have a dog. As far as I know,” I told her. I looked at Abby. Then I gasped. “Light bulb!” I said.
What?” Angela asked.
I mean that I have an idea,” I told her.
What is it?” Abby asked excitedly.
My plan was that we could wait until everyone leaves the school and then investigate Ms. Fincham's office,” I glanced at Abby and then at Angela.
Angela nodded.

Let's do it!” Abby smiled.
Magruder and Christopher! Line up!” Mr. Rich called across the room.
I got up and threw my tray away. I waited in line for Abby and Angela. They came up behind me. “Hey,” I whispered as we went down the hall.

Abby waved.
We headed up to the classroom and got out our netbooks. We all started to type.
Okay. Put your netbooks away and get out your things for math!” Ms. Clark directed us.
Jacob stood up and walked over to the netbook container. “223, 224” He said.
LOUDER!” I ordered him.
Once we got all the netbooks into the container we sat in our spots for math. “Hey, Annie,” I greeted Annie as she sat down in front of me.
Hi,” She replied. I stood up as Angela walked over to me with a deck of cards in her hands.
“Do you want to play with us, Annie?” I asked Annie as I looked down at her.

Sure,” She said.
We picked a spot on the carpet and started to play. I passed out five cards to Angela and Annie.
“The card is.......9” I flipped a card over. We all looked at our cards.
A few minutes had passed and we were all back at our seats.
Get out your homework and a checking pen!” Ms. Magruder turned the document cam.
The class got out our homework.

Chapter 3
BING! BING!” The bell rang and the glass stampeded out of the room. I walked down the steps up to Ms. Ashley. “I'm not going to SACC,” I told her.
Ms. Ashley scanned the list. “Okay.” She glanced back up.
I raced down thhe hall and soon met up with Abby and Angela at the office. “Let's hangout in the bathroom,” I whispered.
Okay!” Abby charged into the bathroom.
Angela and I looked at each other and shrugged as we followed Abby. My belly rumbled as we entered. “I'm hungry. Does anyone have a snack?” I asked.
“No,” Abby frowned
Sorry,” Angela rummaged through her backpack.
I sighed. “We might as well make ourselves at home,” I sat down. “Wait!” I bolted upright. “We forgot something.” I looked through my backpack and took out a piece of paper. I opened the bathroom door and hung the sign.
What was that?” Abby asked.
It was a sign,” I replied
What did it say?” Angela questioned.
Out of ordor,” I smiled and my friends laughed.
Soon, the lights turned off in the school and the last teacher left. “Let's go!” I whispered. I took out a flash light and turned it on. “Go!”
Abby and Angela led the way out. We headed down the hallway to the music room. We stopped in front of the door and took deap breaths. Abby looked at me. I nodded. She turned the door knob and opened the door. We stepped inside and looked around. “No one's here. You two check for evidence around here and I'll check Ms. Fincham's office,” I told them.
Abby and Angela headed up the steps to go look at the instruments. I turned around and twisted the door knob. I took a deap breath and pushed the door open. No one was in there. I started to look through her things.
Lauren!” I jumped to my feet and shined the flahslight at Abby.
She winced in pain and jumped back.
Sorry. What is it?” I turned off the flahslight.
We haven't found anything. You?” She asked
No. Let's leave. We'll check tomorrow night,” I put my flashlight away and we left the building.

Chapter 4
It was friday night and my posse and I were back. “Okay. Let's go!” I pushed the music door open and we entered the room. I turned on my flashlight. I glanced at Abby and Angela. We all nodded and went to work. I opened Ms. Fincham's office door. I gulped as I saw a dog bed lying on the floor next to her desk. It was small and it was red with white dog bones on it. I slowyly lifted my head and looked at some hooks. A red leash was hanging limply over a hook. I stared at the ground. A silver sparkle glimmered in the corner of my eye. I turned. In front of Ms. Fincham's desk was two silver dog bowls. One had dog food and the other had water in them. I was terrified now. She is a dog! OMG! Ms. Fincham's a dog!
"What did you find?" Abby stepped up and snapped me back to reality.
I pointed at everything. "She's a dog!" I exclaimed.
Angela came up and looked around. Her mouth dropped. I nodded, understanding her bewilderment. Once we got all the netbooks into the container we sat in our spots for math. “Hey, Annie,” I greeted Annie as she sat down in front of me.

Angela came up and looked around. Her mouth dropped. I nodded, understanding her bewilderment.
"We're going to fix this!" I balled my fist and my other hand covered it.
"You mean we're going to hurt her!?" Angela shivered at the thought.
"No. I mean we're going to turn her back to normal," I reassured her.
"Oh," She stood there. "How?"
"We're going to give her medicine," I smiled evily.
Angela gulped. "How do you know what to give her?"
"I just do," I snapped.
She backed up.
"Sorry. Let's go," I rushed out the door and headed home.

"I was at Abby's studying," I told my mom.
My mom calmed down and hugged me. “I love you too mom,” I hugged her back.
I finally escaped her grip and went to my room with a cup and a potions book. I took a deap breath. “I hope this works,” I set the things down and got to work.

Chapter 7
Hey. I have it,” I walked up to Abby.
Good. Come on. Let's get Angela,” We sprinted to the office and found Angela waiting for us.
Come on. We're going to give this “energy drink” to her,” I held up the drink and shook it. It made a gross slimy sound.
Ew!” Angela screamed.
I chuckled.
We headed down the hallway and walked into Ms. Fincham's room.
Ms. Fincham!” I called out.

Ms. Fincham poked her head around her door. “Yes?” She asked.
Here. We have an energy drink for you. Just to get you ready for today,” I thrust my arm at her, holding out the energy drink for her. She looked at the drink and took it. She drank it like a savage beast hungry for blood. I sighed. She suddenly shivered and her warm smile spread across her face.
Thanks girls. I feel much better!” She thanked us.
We walked out of the room, smiling.
Mission accomplished!” I cried.

THE END

My Life

I twiddled my thumbs as I stared at my alltime crush. His name was Clate. Clate Whisby. He had light brown hair with sparkling green eyes. He was wearing skinny jeans with a brown shirt.

Ava? Are you paying attention?” I turned my head in an instant to see Ms. Garf staring at me intently.

I felt the whole classes gazes burning into me. “Yes!” I told her. She just went back to writing on the whiteboard. I sighed with relief and looked at my friend Carter. She gave me the wide-eyed look and I did the same. I turned back and glanced at the clock. It was 2:39. Almost time to leave school.

RIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNGGGGGGG!” The bell screeched.

I winced, but stood up as fast as I could and left with my books grasped tightly in my arms. I braced myself for the bombarding of questions as Carter approached. “What was that all about? Were you passing notes? Why-” I cut her off. “No. I was just being shy,” I explained to her slowly. “Oh!” She nodded. “Wait! Why?” I sighed, frustrated that she didn't know. “Clate looked at me,” My cheeks turned red and I grew hot with embarrassment. Carter bounced up and down in excitement. I smiled. "Hey do you want to come over so we can study," I asked her as we started to walk. "Sure," She answered. SLAM! My books fell to the floor. "Hey! Watch where you're go-" I looked up to see it was Clate. "Sorry," I smiled poorly. "No. I'm sorry." He leaned down and grabbed some of my books. I did too. I reached for the last book and Clate did too. His hand landed on my. I pulled away. He picked up the book and handed them to me. "Thank you," I took them. Clate smiled and winked. "See you later!" He called over his shoulder. I turned and waved goodbye. I started to walk again. "I'm so happy for you, Ava," Carter hugged me quickly.

At home, Carter and I were in my room doing our homework. Books were splayed across the floor everywhere. "What did you get for problem number 10?" I glanced up for my book and stared at Carter, waiting patiently for her answer. "I got 31,860. What did you get?" She tapped her pencil against her notebook. "Same thing," I wrote the answer down. I rolled over onto my back. "AH! I'm so bored and hungry!" "Why don't you go get a snack?" Carter asked. "No snacks before dinner," I said miserably. "That stinks," Carter shifted. I sighed. "Let's finish our homework," I rolled back over onto my belly and picked up my pencil.

"DINNER!" My mom called from the bottom of the stairs. "We'll be right down!" I shouted back. I suddenly leaped off my bed and ran out the door. Carter slowly followed me. "You must've been hungry." My mom set my plate down in front of my chair.
"Also bored," Carter sat down. My mom chuckled. I picked up my fork and knife and sliced through my chicken. Not soon, I had finished my chicken. I sat back in my chair and sighed. "What's wrong?" Carter chewed and swallowed. "Nothing," I looked at my feet. "I'll be upstairs," I got out of my seat and took the climb up the steps. I turned the knob and entered my room. Carter came up. "I'm spending the night so we can get ready for the Friday Dance," She closed the door behind her and sat down on the floor. "Let's get started," I sat up and listened.

"RIIINNNGGG! RIIINNNGGG!" I awoke to the phone ringing loudly in my ear. How did it get there? Who's calling? I thought. I pressed the talk button and put the phone to me ear. "Hello?" I said. "Hi. Is this Ava Winters?" The voice asked. "Yes. This is she. Who might you be?" I asked. "I'm Clate. I'm calling to ask you if you want to go to the Friday Dance with me?" Clate told me. My mouth dropped a little and I was speechless. Why is he asking me? Why doesn't he just ask Cloe Barber? "Ava? Ava?" Clate snapped me out of my thoughts. "Sure. I'll go with you," I told him without thinking. "I'll pick you up at eight." And with that, he hung up. I dropped the phone and Carter bolted up. "What!? Who's there?!" She snapped back to herself. "What happened?" She yawned. "Clate called," I didn't even look at her. "Why did he call?" She rubbed her eyes. "He asked me to the dance," I turned to look at her. She hugged me. "I'm so happy for you!" She let go. I smiled. "Let's go downstairs," I slid into my slippers and went downstairs. I rounded the corner and saw my mom sitting on the couch. "Oh! You're awake. I have some bad news. We're moving!" She looked at me.

"WHAT!?" I screamed. "Why?" Carter rubbed my back. "Because I have a new job," She hugged me. "I'm sorry," I pushed her away "When?" I looked down. "Thursday. Why?" "The dance is on Friday," I started to cry. "Oh. I'm really sorry," She kissed my cheek and went back to watching t.v. I climbed the stairs and dialed his number. It started to ring. He answered. "Hello?" He said. "It's Ava. I called because I have to tell you something," I sniffled. "What is it?" He was concerned now. "I'm moving on Thursday. I'm sorry, but I can't go to the dance," I whimpered. "Oh. I'm sorry," He was really concerned now. "Goodbye, Clate," A tear dripped down my face. "Bye." He hung up and I dropped the phone.
